The post White Sox claim RHP Penn Murfee off waivers as two others elect free agency appeared first on Sox On 35th.
The White Sox announced three roster moves on Monday afternoon.
The team has claimed right-handed pitcher Penn Murfee off waivers from the Astros while bidding farewell to pitchers Matt Foster and Jimmy Lambert. The two right-handers elected free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment.
Murfee, 30, spent all of the 2024 season on the injured list as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery, which was performed on his right elbow in July 2023. In two major-league seasons, both with Seattle, the former Mariner has a 2.70 ERA, .179 opponents average, and 92 strikeouts in 83.1 innings. He was signed by Atlanta as a free agent on November 30, 2023, and later claimed off waivers by Houston on March 27, 2024.
Foster and Lambert depart the organization after injuries prevented either from making significant contributions this season. Foster, 29, made six appearances (one start) for the White Sox in 2024, posting a 2.70 ERA and four strikeouts before undergoing season-ending back surgery on September 25. He began the season on the injured list as he continued his recovery from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow performed in April 2023.
Lambert, 29, spent the entire year on the 60-day injured list with a right rotator cuff strain. He underwent season-ending surgery on August 24.
Following Monday’s moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 37.
