The White Sox welcomed fans to Pride at the Park, presented by Vizzy, on Tuesday, June 18 vs. Houston at 7:10 p.m. Fostering inclusivity and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community in Chicago and beyond, the evening offered various initiatives and Pride-themed events that created a welcoming environment for all baseball fans.
From vibrant pregame performances, to exciting on-field entertainment highlighting the spirit of Pride, here are some of the activations that championed equality and excited fans in attendance.
Pride Flag Raising
The White Sox kicked off Pride celebrations by raising the Pride flag in Championship Plaza, outside Gate 4.
Pregame Performance by “Afterhours Collective”
Fans turned their attention to home plate for a pregame performance by “Afterhours Collective.” Led by group founder Lei’Sean Brooks, the dance featured talented community members and Pride-inspired choreography, including the iconic Vogue-style movements made famous by the “Queen of Pop,” well-known LGBTQ+ advocate, Madonna.
First Pitches
Setting the tone for the evening, fans enjoyed ceremonial first pitches by Chicago native and two-time Food Network Champion Chef Camerron Dangerfield, as well as a Vizzy raffle winner from a contest held at Roscoe’s Tavern in Chicago’s Boystown neighborhood.
Hero of the Game
The White Sox honored Chief Petty Officer Lindsay Jones of the United States Coast Guard as the Hero of the Game, thanking her for her unwavering commitment and service to the country. Chief Petty Officer Jones was joined by her wife and two children during the recognition.
Game Changers Photographer Series
As a part of the White Sox Game Changers photographer series, presented by Modelo and Saint Xavier University, Chicago-based, Queer photographer Kate Scott captured the gameday experience through her own unique lens. A Chicagoland native, Scott is passionate about seizing unforgettable moments, especially those inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community.
Pride Photo Opportunity
The White Sox never miss an opportunity for Instagram-worthy photos. Fans celebrated Pride Month in style with presenting sponsor, Vizzy, who offered a 180-degree photo opportunity with a GIF camera.
