Celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the team’s Hispanic fanbase, the Chicago White Sox held Hispanic Heritage Night, presented by Modelo, on September 13 vs. Oakland. The event was more than just a theme night experience, paying tribute to the richness and diversity of Hispanic cultures while recognizing their lasting contributions across baseball and beyond.
Honoring this legacy, the club proudly shared an unforgettable evening of culture, tradition, and unity. Every unique fan experience — from pregame tailgate activations to in-game programming and entertainment — brought energy and excitement that showcased authentic traditions throughout the celebration.
Here’s a glimpse of the giveaways and activities that made Hispanic Heritage Night so special:
Tailgate Performances:
Partnering with several local performance groups, the White Sox greeted fans with a traditional Mexican “baile,” or social dance gathering, offering live performances from LeManz & Picudos at Gate 5. And across 35th and Shields, Los Perros Cubanos brought a unique blend of Cuban rhythms with elements of jazz, blues, rock, and country.
Lotería Night:
Individuals enjoyed an energized game of Lotería in the ballpark’s Patio. Featuring Univision’s Omar Ramos as a card reader, alongside a live DJ, fan excitement for the interactive, and culturally significant game was palpable. The event even featured special edition tarjetas and tablas with images of current players, ballpark food favorites, and more, creating a fun and interactive start to the evening.
Alebrije Giveaway:
The first 15,000 fans, ages 21+, received an exclusive “La Pantera” Alebrije giveaway, presented by Modelo. This unique collectible was created in collaboration with the National Museum of Mexican Art to honor Mexican heritage.
T-Shirt Redemption:
Fans headed to Section 160 when gates opened to redeem a “Los White Sox” floral-patterned T-Shirt.
Pregame Performance:
Colombian vallenato group Juvenato delivered an insightful pregame performance, blending instruments of European origin, like the accordion, with poetic lyrics about everyday life and traditional dance rhythms of the Arhuaco, an indigenous group from the Sierra Nevada mountains.
National Anthem:
Mariachi Monumental de México delivered a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, showcasing their skill and passion as one of Chicago’s premier mariachi groups.
Fan Photo Opp:
The White Sox invited fans to capture memories of the evening with a special photo opportunity at Section 116.
Game Changers:
Venezuelan native Beatriz Cruz took part in the White Sox’s Game Changers Photographer series, presented by Modelo & Saint Xavier University, documenting the night’s festivities through her unique lens.
