The White Sox have continued shuffling their roster today, acquiring OF Corey Julks from the Houston Astros in exchange for RHP Luis Rodriguez.
This was one of four roster moves on the day:
- Acquiring Julks
- Optioned Julks to Triple-A Charlotte
- Recalled OF Dominic Fletcher from Triple-A Charlotte
- Designated OF Rafael Ortega for Assignment
Julks, 28, has spent the entire season with the Astros’ Triple-A affiliate. He did make his major league debut last season, hitting .245/.297/.352 across 323 plate appearances. This season in Triple-A, he is hitting .266/.358/.444 across 148 plate appearances. The White Sox will be the first ballclub he plays with in his career other than the Astros, who drafted him in the eighth round back in 2017.
Rodriguez, 20, has yet to pitch at a level higher than the complex league. This season, in 3.2 innings, he has a 7.36 ERA, and has a 3.93 ERA in 36.2 career innings. The White Sox acquired Rodriguez last May as an international free agent, where he pitched most of the summer in the Dominican Summer League.
It’s unclear what role Julks will fill long-term – though, Fletcher’s promotion to the majors is likely a temporary one to fill the gap left by Ortega’s removal from the roster. Fletcher has hit just 238/.319/.405 in the two weeks since he was sent back to Charlotte.
