Four games apiece will feature the Ajolotes de Kannapolis and Humo de Winston-Salem
MiLB recently announced that Kannapolis Cannon Ballers and Winston-Salem Dash are part of eight new teams joining Copa de la Diversión this year. Kannapolis has never been part of the cultural festivity, and Winston-Salem is adopting a new identity from its last time participating (2019).
For the last eight years, MiLB has put on this season-long series designed to connect Minor League teams with its Hispanic communities in the U.S. Translated to “Fun Cup,” games feature alternate jerseys and ball caps, festive ballpark experience, and specialty menu items, providing something fun for every attending fan. Awards are given to teams that best engage with the community and promote Hispanic heritage at games, with an ultimate “campeon” named at the end of the season.
Referred to as Ajolotes de Kannapolis and Humo de Winston-Salem during Copa de la Diversión games, the Sox Single and High-A teams have already released their uniforms. Kannapolis will feature a bright pink axolotl salamander and a contrasting neon green background, symbolizing inclusivity that blends American traditions with Hispanic heritage. They will also offer grilled corn on the cob on its menu next to standard ballpark offerings.
Winston-Salem will display brick smokestacks in the shape of an “H,” with a cloud of gray-blue smoke emerging from the top on its jerseys and hats to represent thriving Hispanic and Latino-owned businesses in the community.
