With an immaculate performance from Garrett Crochet and early offensive success, the White Sox looked like they were going to achieve their second win of the season. But with a blown lead in the seventh inning, the Sox have been swept in Kansas City and they move to a 1-8 record on the season.
Crochet threw a solid 77 pitches in five innings, striking out five with no walks. He was hitless through four innings until he gave up a two-run home run to Hunter Renfroe. After his start today, Crochet ties Chris Sale for the most strikeouts in White Sox history by a pitcher in his first three career starts with 21.
The White Sox offense lit up in the fourth inning after Dominic Fletcher doubled scoring Andrew Benintendi. Brayden Shewmake followed up with a sacrifice fly scoring Fletcher. In a two-out rally in the fifth, Gavin Sheets, Andrew Vaughn and Benintendi provided three straight singles adding another run to the board.
In the seventh inning, Deivi Garcia took the mound allowing MJ Melendez to hit a two-run home run to give the Royals the lead, and it all went downhill from there. Dominic Leone stepped in after that, allowing another run to score.
