My alphabeticalish player-by-player review — @soxnerd style — of the 2024 White Sox continues with MICHAEL KOPECH:
Kopech joined Hollis “Sloppy” Thurston (Aug. 22, 1923) as White Sox pitchers with an “immaculate inning” (striking out the side on nine pitches) in his second-to-last appearance with the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on July 10 vs. Minnesota.
It was the first “immaculate inning” in the American League since Cleveland’s Enyel De Los Santos victimized Tampa on Sept. 27, 2022.
Another Sox-related nugget …
Kopech’s “immaculate inning” was the first by an American League pitcher finishing off a victory since the Red Sox Craig Kimbrel went nine pitches/nine strikes in the ninth inning for the win over the Brewers on May 11, 2017.
