Highlighting the strength and impact of female fandom, the White Sox held Women’s Equality Night on Monday, August 26 vs. Detroit at 7:10 p.m. An evening celebrating empowerment and representation, festivities created an unforgettable gameday experience while shining a bright spotlight on women’s contributions, achievements and potential.
Pregame activations around 35th and Shields filled the air with energy and excitement. Fans were greeted by a lively performance from DJ 3 Snapz and a women-led rock band, The PriSSillas, at Gates 4 and 5.
The BMO Small Business Hub also became a focal point of the tailgate, featuring local, women-owned businesses and non-profits that are championing gender representation and advocacy. An inspiring sight, fans engaged with entrepreneurs who are not only building successful businesses, but also leading the charge for social change.
As fans entered the ballpark, the Sox marked the evening with an impactful community service initiative. Front office staff, along with volunteers from Youth Guidance’s Working on Womanhood (WOW) program, came together for a pregame event to assemble menstruation kits. These kits, which were distributed to young women from Chicago’s under-resourced neighborhoods, addressed the often-overlooked issue of period poverty. The event was made even more special with remarks from Claire Coder, the inspiring Founder and CEO of Aunt Flow, who spoke passionately about the importance of menstrual health and education.
Earlier this season, the White Sox collaborated with Aunt Flow and hygiene service provider Citron Hygiene, to install dispensers with free period products at 11 locations throughout the ballpark, making menstrual products more accessible.
One of the evening’s biggest highlights, the White Sox held a “Women in Sports Panel,” which brought together trailblazers in the sports industry to discuss the growing legacy of Title IX and the momentum behind women’s sports. The panel featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including Kim Ng, the first woman to hold a general manager position in Major League Baseball and now a senior advisor at Athletes Unlimited, along with CHISOX athletes Abbey Murphy and Kiki Van Zanten. Murphy, an NCAA Division I hockey player and U.S. Women’s National Team member, and Van Zanten, a professional soccer midfielder for the Houston Dash, shared their experiences and insights into breaking barriers in their respective sports. The discussion, moderated by White Sox in-game host Alyssa Bergamini, was an inspiring reminder of the power of perseverance and the importance of representation in sports.
Sox fans were encouraged to join the conversation using the hashtag #SoxSupportHer throughout the night, especially as additional in-game programming celebrated and honored leading women in the industry.
