Forget the scoreboard, seems to be Chicago’s new strategy
Today, the Chicago White Sox announced a series of additional limited-edition fan giveaways and brand-new themed celebrations to their calendar. You know the old adage, “If you can’t provide your fans with good baseball, bribe them with cool promotional items.” I’m certainly not complaining. Despite the ugliness on the field, I am not ashamed to admit that I can be lured to the park with nifty stuff.
Highlighting the calendar is a highly unexpected and marvelous Ice Cube bobblehead giveaway, scheduled for Thursday, August 28, when the White Sox take on the New York Yankees for African American Heritage Night. The first 10,000 fans entering Rate Field that evening will receive the commemorative bobblehead, celebrating the rap icon whose influence helped solidify the 1990s White Sox black cap and logo in mainstream fashion.
Adding to the giveaway swag, the South Siders will also offer a slick boat captain hat to the first 10,000 fans on the ever-popular Yacht Rock Night, presented by City Cruises, on Thursday, July 10, against the Cleveland Guardians.
Beyond the traditional gate items, Chicago unveiled a creative and engaging lineup of specialty ticket offerings and inaugural theme nights. These unique events will celebrate Chicago sports legends and pop culture figures as well as honor diverse cultures and heritages at the ballpark.
Joining the previously announced Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Night on Monday, May 19, against the Seattle Mariners, the 2025 specialty-themed promotion schedule includes:
- Juneteenth Day party on Thursday, June 19 vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.
- Barbie Game Day™ on Monday, June 23 vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks, featuring an exclusive Barbie™ jersey for the first 1,000 fans.*
- Seinfeld Night on Tuesday, July 29, vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, with a Robin Ventura bobblehead for the first 1,000 fans.*
- Chicago Bulls Night on Friday, August 8 vs. the Cleveland Guardians, featuring a Derrick Rose bobblehead for the first 2,000 fans.*
- Pokémon Go Night on Monday, August 11 vs. the Detroit Tigers, offering a Pokémon Go t-shirt for the first 2,000 fans.*
- Chicago Sky Night, presented by Village of Bedford Park, on Women’s Equality Day, Tuesday, August 26, vs. the Kansas City Royals, including a Chicago Sky hat for the first 1,000 fans.*
