NEW YORK (WGN) — A pair of scrapbooks belonging to “Shoeless” Joe Jackson are up for bid over the next two weeks.
Offered by Leland’s Auctions, up for bid is a collection of Joe Jackson’s personal scrapbooks obtained directly from Jackson’s family.
The first scrapbook has a leather back cover with the front cover missing. There are about 118 pages in the scrapbook that contain various newspaper articles, box scores, summaries of baseball games and photographs of Jackson mounted to the pages, which are filled with various, mostly pre-1920s newspaper articles on Jackson.

The second scrapbook includes approximately 90 pages of newspaper clippings that range from 1912 to 1956. and include an article announcing Jackson’s death.
According to the scrapbooks’ auction listing, there is a “treasure trove” of information and photos included in both, mostly relating to Jackson. There are also articles and photos related to players like Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and more.
The auction listing also said some highlights of the collection include a large, full-page size photo of Jackson, team photos of teams that Jackson played on, World Series photos, and photos of Ruth and Williams. Several of the pages are loose from the scrapbooks and have tape on them. Many of the clippings have also yellowed over the years.
