According to Jim Bowden of the Athletic, the top suitors for free agent starting pitcher Corbin Burnes are narrowing down. The Toronto Blue Jays and the San Francisco Giants are the top two landing spots for Burnes, with the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles still in the running. We shouldn’t rule out the Orioles, who Burnes could re-sign with if they offer him a juicy deal. The 30-year-old righty is a highly coveted free agent who dominated in 2024 with a 15-9 record, a 2.92 ERA, and 181 strikeouts with the Orioles.
What is @JimBowdenGM hearing about Corbin Burnes?
“The most likely landing spots for Burnes are the Blue Jays or Giants with the Red Sox and Orioles still possibilities, and I think he’ll sign with whoever offers the most years and dollars.”

Teams in the Running for Corbin Burnes Narrowing Down
Top Suitors For Burnes
The Blue Jays, Red Sox, and Giants are the top three teams remaining in the running to land Burnes. he would be an elite addition for the Blue Jays who have been fairly quiet so far this offseason. They have only added Andrés Giménez and brought back Yimi García. The Blue Jays need a starter, and Burnes would be a huge signing for them. The Giants met with Scott Boras and boosted their offer for Burnes over the weekend.
Earlier this offseason, Boston acquired Garrett Crochet, Aroldis Chapman, and Patrick Sandoval. They’ve been aggressive this offseason, and Burnes will go after his best offer, meaning all remaining teams will be on the hunt. The Giants already bolstered their roster with the franchise-record signing of Willy Adames. Blue Jays fans are still waiting for Toronto to make their big signing this offseason. While the acquisition of Giménez was a step in the right direction, the Blue Jays still have a lot of work to do this offseason. Burnes is likely awaiting to see what happens with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. Trade rumors for Bichette continue to swirl, as well as for Guerrero. While the offseason is still young, any of these teams will need to make a sizable offer to land the ace.
