Colorado stomps Chicago pitching for yet another L
It’s preseason, but the White Sox are picking right up where they left off. With a 14-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies, Chicago is still on the hunt for their first Cactus League victory.
Davis Martin, Fraser Ellard, and Garrett Schoenle were the few bright spots for Chicago today. Martin was today’s starter, tossing two frames of one-hit ball. He also had two strikeouts and no walks. Ellard was equally impressive and came out and threw a perfect fifth inning with three batters up and three down. Schoenle was sent in for mop-up duty in the eighth and retired all three batters he faced.
Unfortunately, good would not be a word used to describe the rest of the Sox hurlers. Jairo Iriarte, Brandon Eisert, Gus Varland, and Justin Anderson took to throwing batting practice for the Rockies. The first three surrendering two runs each, with Justin Anderson outdoing them all. The 32-year-old Anderson, who was picked up in free agency last season by the South Siders, got absolutely tattooed for eight runs on seven hits and he didn’t even record an out. The righthander wasn’t helped out by his defense either as second baseman Brooks Baldwin booted a ball that allowed one unearned run to score.
The anemic South Side offense continued into its fourth game. They amassed one paltry tally in the bottom of the fourth when Lenyn Sosa led off with a walk, and Matt Thaiss followed with a double. After a Korey Lee strikeout and Michael A. Taylor flyout, Sosa sauntered home on a wild pitch by Diego Castillo. You’ve got to love wild-pitch offense. At this point, they’ll take them any way they can get them.
Then, just for fun, in the ninth after trailing 14-1, Dominic Fletcher smashed a two-run bomb to right.

Colson Montgomery had another rough outing, going 0-for-3 with two Ks. He’s still struggling to hit the fastball and struck out swinging on three pitches in his first at bat. Baldwin went 1-for-2 with a double and an error while Edgar Quero went 1-for-1 with a single.
For Sox fans looking for a taste of good news, catcher Kyle Teel, who switched the color of his socks this season from red to white in the Garrett Crochet trade, hit a rocket off Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Roki Sasaki in a “hybrid-B game” this afternoon.

Teammate Tim Elko also smashed a dinger off Sasaki. Not the best of debuts for the Japanese superstar.
