The Boston Red Sox have shored up their starting rotation by signing Walker Buehler to a one-year, $21.05 million deal. The two-time World Series Champion and first-time free agent has spent his entire career in the Dodger organization. The thirty-year-old right-hander was a first-round pick of Los Angeles in 2015 and made his debut in 2017. Buehler has established himself as one of the best “big game” pitchers in the National League.

Red Sox Sign Walker Buehler
As his rapid rise through the minor leagues suggests, Buehler is one of the most dynamic arms to come out of the Dodger organization. He has electric stuff, and the right hander also seems to thrive in the big games. The bigger the stage, the better he gets, as Buehler’s 0.47 World Series ERA can attest.
Struggles Galore in 2024
The right-hander missed all of 2023 after his second Tommy John surgery, and he struggled in 2o24 finding his release point, reflected in a team high 5.68 E.R.A. The trend continued in the Division Series against the Padres. It looked like a never-ending nightmare.
From the Basement to the Penthouse
However, between the Division Series and the NLCS, Buehler found his repertoire. The right-hander pitched 13 scoreless innings the rest of the postseason, only walking four. He also struck out a baker’s dozen, nearly half of the total batters he faced in the NLCS, and the World Series combined. This included, out of necessity, a three-out save in the clinching Game 5 of the World Series, cementing Buehler’s name in Dodger lore forever.
The right-hander has a 0.47 ERA in his World Series appearances, solidifying his effectiveness under the brightest lights.
Now that Buehler is signed with the Red Sox, one of the best high-impact arms is off the market and Buehler and Boston could be winners.
