Veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin has signed a one-year deal with the Texas Rangers after six seasons with the Washington Nationals. The 35-year-old marked his 100th career win last August and has a 4.51 ERA in 342 games (324 starts) over his 12-year major league career.

Patrick Corbin Joins Rangers On One-Year Deal
Corbin first made his mark in the majors with the Arizona Diamondbacks, earning his first All-Star nod in 2013. He made his second All-Star appearance and finished fifth in National League Cy Young voting in what would be his final season in Arizona in 2018. Corbin signed a six-year deal worth $140 million with the Nationals the following year, posting a 3.25 ERA over 33 starts during the regular season. He is most known for pitching three scoreless innings of relief in Game 7 of the 2019 World Series, helping the Nationals secure their first championship in franchise history.
However, the veteran left-hander has struggled in recent years, posting a 5.52 ERA over the last three seasons. Corbin had a tough 2024, leading the majors in hits and walks allowed for the second time in three seasons. Over the past five seasons, Corbin has led all pitchers in hits allowed (905), earned runs (465), and losses (70).
Despite his recent struggles, Corbin is the only major league pitcher to make 30 starts in seven seasons since 2017. He pitched 946 ⅔ innings over his six years in Washington, often saving an overworked Nationals bullpen. Corbin stayed with the Nationals throughout their rebuild and was a veteran leader in a clubhouse that saw 10 MLB debuts last season.
The Rangers hope his veteran presence can stabilize their pitching staff while setting an example for younger players. For Corbin, joining Texas represents an opportunity to prove he still has something left in the tank as he looks to regain his earlier All-Star form.
