The Birmingham Barons finished out the year with an impressive lineup of players.
Colson Montgomery finished another impressive season in the White Sox farm system, earning a spot in the MLB’s top 100 prospects at 17. The 21-year-old shortstop finished his 2023 campaign with a .287 AVG and a .939 OPS.
The White Sox traded to acquire catcher Edgar Quero at the trade deadline on July 26, 2023 from the Los Angeles Angels. The 20-year-old Cuba native ranked 81 among the top 100 MLB prospects. In 27 games at Birmingham, Quero registered 12 runners caught stealing.
Another native of Cuba, Bryan Ramos, had a dominant end to his 2023 campaign at the plate. Ramos had a .306 AVG in the month of August, before wrapping up the last two weeks of the Barons season.
Another trade deadline acquisition, Nick Nastrini, dominated through the end of the 2023 season. The White Sox acquired Nastrini from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Nastrini earned 3 wins in Birmingham with a 4.22 ERA over 4 games. At the end of August, Nastrini was promoted to the White Sox Triple A affiliate the Charlotte Knights where he finished with a 4.12 ERA.
Nastrini was named International League Pitcher of the Week for the period of Sept. 18–24 during his stint in Charlotte.
