CHICAGO — Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger has opted to undergo surgery and is done for the rest of the year.
According to a press release from the team, Clevinger will undergo disc replacement surgery on his neck on Aug. 1 and will miss the remainder of the Major League Baseball regular season.
Clevinger has been on the injured list since the end of May, when he last made two rehab starts with the White Sox Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights.
In four starts with Chicago this season, Clevinger went 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA across 16.0 innings pitched, where he struck out 15 batters, walked nine and gave up 12 earned runs on 22 hits.
The White Sox signed him to a one-year, $3 million deal back on April 4.
Chicago takes on the Seattle Mariners Saturday night, with Erick Fedde (7-3, 2.98 ERA) scheduled to take on Bryan Woo (4-1, 2.54 ERA) at 6:15 p.m. CT.
