Luis Robert Jr. Blasts Two Home Runs in Win over Astros
The White Sox came out strong in game one against Houston Astros. In the top of the second inning, Korey Lee hit a double to left field. After a Miguel Vargas walk, Dominic Fletcher hit an RBI single to score Lee and give the White Sox a 1–0 lead.
Nicky Lopez led the top of the third inning with a single to left field. Luis Robert Jr. launched his first home run of the night 415 feet to extend the lead, 3–0.
The Astros struck back in the bottom of the third inning. Jose Altuve hit a double that went through the scoreboard at Minute Maid Park. Yordan Alvarez hit an RBI single to score Altuve and cut the White Sox lead to 3–1.
Robert Jr. wasn’t done yet, hitting his second home run of the night in the top of the fifth inning, lifting the White Sox to a 4–1 lead.
The Astros crept closer in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jake Meyers hit a two-run home run to cut the lead to 4–3.
Following singles from Fletcher and Nicky Lopez, Robert Jr. tacked on another run in the top of the eighth inning with an RBI single to score Fletcher, 5–3.
The Astros attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo home run from Jon Singleton, 5–4.
White Sox pitching struck out 15 batters.
Garrett Crochet notched his 25th start of the season. His final line was 4.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K. Chad Kuhl earned the save, fanning two batters in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Chicago White Sox defeated the Houston Astros, 5–4, at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.
