Lance Lynn Announces Retirement
Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft, Lynn debuted in 2011. He made an immediate impact in his call-up. Lynn earned a World Series title that year, contributing to the Cardinals’ Game 7 victory over the Texas Rangers. Lynn’s breakout season came in 2012, when he posted an 18-7 record with a 3.78 ERA and earned an All-Star selection.
Despite Tommy John surgery in 2015 and a tough stint with the Minnesota Twins in 2018, Lynn rebounded with a career resurgence. In 2019, he signed with the Texas Rangers and finished fifth in American League Cy Young voting after leading the league with 246 strikeouts. Lynn continued to shine after joining the Chicago White Sox in 2021, earning a second All-Star nod and finishing third in AL Cy Young voting.
Lynn’s final seasons were marred by injuries and inconsistency. However, he achieved notable milestones in 2024, including 2,000 career innings and 2,000 strikeouts. His final stat line: 136-97, a 3.74 ERA, and 2,013 strikeouts over 2,006 1/3 innings.
