Garrett Crochet got the start on the bump for the White Sox in tonight’s matchup against the Cleveland Guardians. Crochet proved strong in his 6.0 innings outing, striking out 11 batters, a new career high.
The White Sox got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth inning. Following two singles from Korey Lee and Paul DeJong, Nicky Lopez reached second on a fielder’s choice. Lee and DeJong both scored and gave the White Sox a 2–0 lead. Tommy Pham tacked on another run with an RBI single to score Lopez, 3–0.
The Guardians answered in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run from center fielder, Tyler Freeman, cutting the lead to 3–1.
White Sox bats stayed hot in the bottom of the seventh inning after Korey Lee and Paul DeJong hit back-to-back home runs to left field, lifting the White Sox to a 5–1 lead.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Guardians responded. Third baseman, José Ramírez, hit a 2-run home run to left field, tightening the White Sox lead to 5–3.
Vaughn tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run to center field, securing a 6–3 lead.
Korey Lee went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and Paul DeJong went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.
Steven Wilson, Tanner Banks, and Jordan Leasure came in for relief in the final three innings. Leasure earned the save.
