The White Sox saw a strong performance from pitcher Nick Nastrini in his sixth appearance of the year. The young right-hander pitched 4.1 innings, striking out five, allowing only one hit, and holding the Red Sox scoreless until the 5th inning.
The Red Sox got on the board with a solo home run by Bobby Dalbec in the 5th inning.
In response, in the bottom of the 5th, the White Sox offense ignited. Danny Mendick doubled, followed by walks to Corey Julks and Zach DeLoach, loading the bases. Andrew Vaughn then singled to score Mendick, tying the game 1–1. With the bases still loaded, Gavin Sheets launched his first career grand slam off Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello, giving the White Sox a commanding lead.
Paul DeJong padded the score for the good guys with a solo home run, his 11th of the year.
The bullpen came up big as the combination of Tanner Banks (1.2 innings), John Brebbia (1.0 inning), Jordan Leasure (1.0 inning), and Michael Kopech (1.0 inning) held the Red Sox scoreless to end the game. Notably, this marked Tanner Banks’ first win of the season.
The White Sox defeated the Boston Red Sox, 6–1, at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois on June 8, 2024.
