Chicago and Colorado are both expected to be pretty bad this year, so maybe the South Siders can win their first spring training game today
Alright, White Sox fans! Let’s get ready for a sun-soaked spring training showdown as Chicago (0-3) takes on the Colorado Rockies (3-1) today at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona. While the Cactus League standings don’t count towards October glory, these games are crucial for players to shake off the winter rust, fine-tune their skills, and for fans to get a glimpse of what the season might hold. They’re also a welcome sight for us fans living in colder climates that winter is wrapping up soon.
So far, it hasn’t been pretty for the Good Guys, as they’ve lost all three of their Cactus League contests and haven’t scored more than three runs in any of them. You’re probably right if you think the offense might be a problem again in 2025. Although it is still early, things are certainly not trending in the right direction.
This is how new skipper Will Venable will line them up today. The starting nine here only includes one top prospect, Colson Montgomery, but expect to see more of them enter the lineup throughout the contest. Montgomery is 1-for-4 with a home run so far this spring.

White Sox/X
Davis Martin gets the ball for the South Siders. Martin should be a lock for a spot in the starting five as long as he stays healthy and has a strong spring. The righthander could even make a case to get the Opening Day nod. The 28-year-old enters this spring completely healthy after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May 2023.
On the other side of the diamond, here’s who Rockies manager Bud Black will run out this afternoon.

Colorado Rockies/X
Germán Márquez takes the bump for Colorado. The 30-year-old veteran has spent his entire big league career in the Centennial State. The Venezuelan native has struggled with various injury issues for the past two seasons and has only pitched in five games during that period.
If you’re interested in following today’s contest, MLB Gameday will be your friend or, for a recapper like me, your enemy. The game starts at 2:10 p.m. CT.
