Will the South Siders grab their first series win?
Happy Sox Sunday! Afternoon baseball is back, and so am I. The Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox will face off this afternoon as they both are 1-1 and look for their first series win of the season. Opening Day was an offensive explosion for the South Siders, followed by a shutout yesterday. Which team will they be today? The question remains.
Our pitching matchup this afternoon is Jack Kochanowicz and Davis Martin. The 24-year-old Kochanowicz is making his 12th career start. So far, his career stats sit at 2-6, with a 3.99 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 65 1⁄3 innings. He was drafted by the Halos in 2019 in the third round as the 92nd overall pick and spent a few stints in the majors with the Angels last season. He will look to be a more consistent starter for them and crack their roster permanently.
Martin will be an essential piece for the White Sox rotation this year, as the righty will make his first start of the season. In 2024, he started 11 games but went 0-5 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. The 0-5 record is deceiving. Remember, he was on the worst White Sox team of all time. He is better than the record demonstrates, and hopefully, this year, he can get a more solid role in proving so. He was a 2018 draft pick by the White Sox in the 14th round and debuted in 2022. This will be an important year to see if he will be a part of the rebuild moving forward.

New leadoff hitter alert! Nick Maton will start it off today, followed by Luis Robert Jr., the Andrews, Matt Thaiss, Miguel Vargas, and Brooks Baldwin. Jake Amaya and Travis Jankowski will close it out. Although that lineup looks rough, at least we have this to look forward to hopefully soon …
