Chicago police and Cook County prosecutors have alleged a man from the city’s Southwest Side carried out a monthslong shooting spree that left six people dead throughout 2020.
The man, 22-year-old Antonio Reyes, has been held in the Cook County Jail since late 2020, court records show, as he already faced murder charges in a June 2020 shooting in the 5800 block of South Rockwell Street.
CPD leaders are expected to further detail the shootings during a press conference at police headquarters Wednesday. The charges were first reported Wednesday by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Court records show Reyes now faces murder charges in five more deadly shootings that occurred in 2020 across several neighborhoods on the Southwest Side. All told, Reyes is charged in seven separate shootings that all occurred between March and November 2020.
Since he was taken into custody in 2020, Reyes also faces an attempted murder charge for allegedly stabbing another inmate in the county jail, records show.
