Thanks to a request from @soxnerd follower Ryan James Vance (@ryanjamesvance), here are the five coldest games at Guaranteed Rate Field/US Cellular Field/New Comiskey Park, the White Sox home since 1991:
*31 degrees, April 4, 2007: With winds blowing out to center field at 15 mph, the Sox fell to Cleveland 12-5 before 26,337 fans in the coldest home game since at least 1963. … This Wednesday afternoon weather was quite the contrast from the opener two days prior when the Sox lost in 54 degree temperatures.
*31 degrees, April 7, 2007: Three days later, 33,278 braved the mid-Saturday afternoon cold to watch the Sox improve to 2-2 with a 3-0 win over Detroit. Starter Javier Vazquez and relievers Andy Sisco, Mike MacDougal, Matt Thornton and Bobby Jenks combined on a three-hitter as the temp tied the record from three days prior for the lowest in a Sox home game since at least 1963.
*32 degrees, April 5, 2003: Thanks to the great Mark Buehrle, this “35th Street Freeze Out” didn’t take long. The always fast-moving Buehrle and the Sox dispatched the Tigers 7-0 in 2 hours and the 16 minutes. The 16,972 on hand, who braved 15 mph winds from left to right saw Buehrle go eight and Rick White finish up on a Saturday afternoon.
*32 degrees, April 9, 2016: The Sox pinned a loss on Bryan Shaw in a 7-3 triumph over Cleveland before 20,192 on a Saturday afternoon on the Southside. Chris Sale got the win while Matt Albers finished off Cleveland with two perfect innings.
*32 degrees, April 7, 2018: Miguel Cabrera had three RBI in dooming the Sox to a 7-1 loss in a Saturday matinee before 16,625 fans.
*Notes: Source is baseballreference.com … Not included in this list is an April 9, 1997 matinee in 34 degree temps before 746. The Sox lost 7-0 to Roger Clemens and the Jays in a game that was hurriedly rescheduled from night to day because of a brutal cold snap.
