The White Sox offense was attacking early. Tim Anderson put the Sox on the board in the top of the first inning after scoring on an Eloy Jiménez single to Brandon Nimmo in center field. Zach Remillard would add on a run after being brought home by an Elvis Andrus sacrifice fly in the second, giving the Sox a 2–0 lead.
The Mets would cut the lead in half when Omar Narvaez homered to right center field in the fifth inning.
However, in the top of the next frame the Sox turned it on to score four total runs to extend the lead. Yasmani Grandal doubled with the bases loaded to knock in Luis Robert Jr., who reached on a fielding error by Pete Alonso, and Eloy Jiménez. Oscar Colás brought home Jake Burger on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Mark Canha. Elvis Andrus capped off the inning with a triple to score Yasmani Grandal.
Pete Alonso would attempt to draw up a rally for the Mets in the eighth inning with a single to score Brandon Nimmo but ends up falling short as the Sox would go on to win 6–2.
Starting pitcher Michael Kopech had a great bounce back game, tossing 5.2 and striking out 5 Mets. Aaron Bummer, Gregory Santos and Kendall Graveman each fanned one Met to hold the lead and secure the win.
The Chicago White Sox defeated the New York Mets 6–2 at Citi Field on July 20, 2023.
