The White Sox drafted Drake Logan in the 19th round (No. 581 overall) in 2022. The righty came into the organization as a third baseman — playing five games at this position upon being drafted in 2022 — but has since transformed into an outfielder. Logan played the majority of games in right field in 2023 but has since adapted into more of a flexible outfielder role in 2024. He shifted between all three outfield positions, but ultimately spent the most time in left field (30 games) and center field (28). From a defensive perspective, Logan seems to perform the best in the corner outfield positions, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage in 16 games in right and .980 in left.
Offensively, Logan slashed .266/.328/.430 and had the second-most home runs (eight) and doubles (20) among the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. One weak spot for Logan is that he tends to strike out a lot, posting a 37.2% K% in 323 PAs. He did improve his K% year over year, but a 2023 43.5% K% has got to be tough to beat. The other issue with regards to strikeouts is that Logan doesn’t walk very much, drawing 21 compared to 120 strikeouts; his walk rate actually regressed, with a 50% decrease from 2023 (13% down to 6.5%).
When Logan makes contact, he tends to get on base a decent amount of time, but in order to be an X factor in 2025, he’ll need to work on cutting back those strikeouts. Logan’s solid defensive performance is certainly one of his top attributes, but he also performed better than the majority of his teammates in several batting categories, so we know the talent and power is there.
Logan’s Baseball Cube player ratings
Power 51
Speed 48
XBH 48
RBIs 38
Hitting 34
Runs 25
Contact 4
Baseball Cube also indicates that his batting power is his best category, however, his contact rating (just at the fourth percentile of his peers!) drastically drops off, really highlighting that 37% strikeout clip. A third straight year in Low-A is very undesirable for any player, so Logan may be pushed to High-A Winston-Salem just to press the issue for him in 2025 — the season is certainly a sink-or-swim one for him.
