The Sox drafted Lyle Miller-Green in Round 17 (No. 499) of the 2024 MLB Draft, and afterward the Russian-born first baseman played in 19 games for the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. The “Sultan of Swat,” as he was known at his alma mater of Austin Peay, has a fascinating backstory.

The 24-year-old played for four collegiate teams over five years of eligibility. He finally found the perfect fit with the Austin Peay Governors, and spent his last two years in Tennessee. Miller-Green earned more than a dozen accolades during his senior for his performance, including being selected as a member of five different All-America teams.

He was a two-way player throughout college, although the Sox undoubtedly view his hitting side as much more valuable than his pitching one. With his build and frame, Miller-Green has the potential for a lot of power in that bat — he slashed .393/.533/.900 with 30 homers (most in team history) in his last collegiate season. Unfortunately, the slugger’s power wasn’t on display during his brief time with the Ballers, as he smacked only two bombs in 77 plate appearances.
