Daniel González might not have enjoyed too much more patience from the White Sox had his 2023 not turned out so well. As a reliever over two seasons in the DSL (2021-22), he was entrusted to finish games, but that trust was not rewarded (5.00 career DSL ERA, despite being slightly old for the level).
However, González was superb for the short-season Complex Sox, getting into 16 games and serving as a key closer for the team. (His one save is primarily a product of the ACL club being, uh, godawful.) Arizona hitters clearly weren’t picking González up well at all, as his hit rate fell by more than half, to 3.7 per 9; the lefty’s Ks also shot up … along with walks.
In 2024, González reaffirmed his dominance in Arizona, pitching to a 1.04 ERA while sticking in the Complex all season. When the early end to another poor ACL White Sox season came around, D-Gon was off to Kannapolis, where the 4.58 FIP and .273 BABIP he was tightrope-walking with at the lower level came to roost.
While it’s uncertain there are players known as ACL MVPs who never do much beyond instructional-level stardom, González is shaping up to be that player.
González’s Baseball Cube player ratings
Durability 94 (+3 from last season)
Strikeouts 84 (+7)
Hittable 70 (+3)

Despite the sunny outlook of his ACL stats and his comps to peers as seen in these sunny ratings, González will desperately need to solve Low-A, and with some authority, in 2025.
