Perhaps one day we won’t be able to say the White Sox traded Michael Kopech, Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham for nothing

Jeral Perez was acquired from the Dodgers last July as part of the package that sent Michael Kopech to L.A. and Erick Fedde to St. Louis. He fits the mold of hitter that the White Sox have targeted in recent acquisitions, placing a premium on plate discipline. Perez has walked in at least 10% of his plate appearances at each stop he’s made through the Dodger and White Sox systems thus far.
The 2024 Futures Game participant has also never posted a wRC+ of less than than 118 as a pro. He finished last season slashing .262/.370/.423 with 12 HR and a 121 wRC+ across Rancho Cucamonga (Los Angeles) and Kannapolis (Chicago).
Perez has a very simple set-up at the plate with very little pre-swing movement, and a mini-stride as he gets to his launch position. His Chase and Whiff rates did increase after the trade, perhaps a result of pressing for a new organization, yet Perez still maintained a strong walk rate as he switched teams. Perez’s profile of plate discipline combined with great bat speed for a middle infield prospect is what makes him an intriguing prospect. He also pulls balls in the air, but he’ll need to prove he can maintain his discipline, zone contact rates, and pop as he moves up the ladder facing better quality arms.

Given Perez’s penchant for punishing pitchers, Winston-Salem seems like a likely destination for him as the 2025 season kicks off.
