My alphabeticalish player-by-player review — @soxnerd style — of the 2024 White Sox continues with GAVIN SHEETS:
A few random takeaways from Sheets’ 2024:
*Sheets’ .947 slugging percentage in 2024 was the highest ever by a Sox lefty with at least 19 at bats against the Yankees.
In addition Sheets’ .526 average vs. the Yanks in 2024 was the third-highest in Sox history behind Lamar Johnson’s .632 in 1977 and Red Barnes’ .546 in 1930.
*The Marylander emerged from 2024 fourth in Sox annals with a .404 average and second to Albert Belle’s .721 with a .606 slugging percentage against the Yankees (min. 47 at bats).
Coupled with his 2024 vs. the champion Dodgers (.375/.375/.625), Sheets slashed .481/.481/.852 in nine games against 2024’s World Series teams.
*On April 10 in Cleveland, Sheets became the first player in White Sox history with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and a steal in a game.
*On Aug. 12, Sheets became the first Sox player with a three-double game since vs. the Yankees since Milt May on June 2, 1979 in New York. He was the first to do it at home since Claudell Washington on April 15, 1979.
