My alphabetical review — @soxnerd style —of the 2023 White Sox continues with a look at JAKE BURGER:
The big slugger became the first player since Ron Kittle in 1990 to finish second on the White Sox in homers without finishing the season with the team.
Burger clubbed 25 homers to finish second on the team to Luis Robert Jr.’s 38 in 2023. Burger was sent to the Miami Marlins on Aug. 1 for minor league pitcher Jake Eder.
Kittle was the last player to be the Sox homer runner-up while not ending the season on the Southside. “Kitty” hit 16 homers that season before being dealt to Baltimore for Phil Bradley on July 30. He finished second to Carlton Fisk’s 18 that season.
