My alphabetical recap — @soxnerd style — of the 2023 White Sox continues with a look at ANDREW BENINTENDI:
While it certainly didn’t feel like it, Andrew Benintendi had one of the best seasons by a White Sox player in high leverage situations in the complete data era (since 1973).
These are higher pressure situations, where the outcome of the situation is more likely to reflect the outcome of the game, per baseballreference.com.
In 2023, Benintendi slashed .368/.473/.461 in those situations. The average was the highest by a Sox player (minimum 76 at bats) since Adam Eaton’s .390 and Conor Gillaspie’s .380 in 2014.
Benintendi’s OBP in this department/time frame is second to Frank Thomas’ .477 in 1997.
