CHICAGO — The Cubs have signed utility infielder Jon Berti to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports.
Berti, 35, was signed for $2 million with up to $1.3 million in incentives, according to MLB.com.
He’s coming off a 2024 campaign with the Yankees where he just had 66 at-bats, but had successful 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Marlins.
In 2022, he stole a league-leading 41 bases and in ’23 he hit .294 with 16 steals.
He was drafted out of Bowling Green University in 2011 and spent a longtime in the minors before debuting in Sept. 2018.
Hoyer and company have been re-working the bench headed into the 2025 season. They traded Matt Mervis to Miami for former top prospect Vidal Brujan and selected infielder Gage Workman in the Rule 5 Draft.
The club’s first Spring Training game is scheduled for Feb. 20 against the Dodgers.
