Well, this is a surprise. The Cubs announced Monday that Nico Hoerner underwent right flexor tendon surgery performed by Dr. Keith Meister on October 11. Though the club provided no timeline for recovery, it typically takes 6-8 weeks to resume light activities and 3 months to regain previous strength. In some cases, it may take 6 months to regain full range of motion.
So while it’s possible Hoerner is back at full go for spring training, falling on the longer end of that scale puts his return closer to April. That could open the door for Matt Shaw to get an early look, though we won’t know more on that for quite some time.
