The season ends with a 3-2 win over Rochester
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs clipped the wings of the Rochester Red Wings (Nationals), 3-2 in 11 innings.
Iowa cleaned out the pitching staff today with nine pitchers, none of whom pitched more than two innings. Lucas Luetge started and gave up two runs on three hits and a walk. He did not strike anyone out.
The next eight pitchers shut the Red Wings out the rest of the way. Jimmy Herget, Michael Arias, Chase Watkins, Tyler Santana (two innings), Eduarniel Nunez, Jack Neely and Colten Brewer finished out regulation. Riley Martin pitched the two extra innings and got the win. Martin gave up no hits and walked one while striking out three.
Catcher William Simoneit hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to tie up the game. It was his second on the season. Simoneit went 1 for 4.
In the top of the eleventh inning, second baseman Reivaj Garcia singled home automatic runner Hayden Cantrelle, breaking the deadlock. Garcia went 2 for 4 with a walk.
Right fielder Owen Caissie was 2 for 5.
Third baseman Matt Shaw was 2 for 6 and he made a spectacular catch into the net in foul territory.

And that’s a wrap on the 2024 Cub minor league season. As always, thanks for reading. The Arizona Fall League and the Mesa Solar Sox start on October 7. I only do weekly recaps of the Solar Sox, but we will be following the Boys of Autumn for those of you who can’t get enough of the Baby Cubs.
We’ll see you next year in Knoxville! (As opposed to 30 minutes outside of Knoxville.)
