Most of the 40-man roster plus some alumni favorites will be in attendance.
The Cubs Convention begins this Friday at the downtown Sheraton Grand Hotel. Passes are still available and you can get yours here.
Here are all the current, past and future Cubs who will be in attendance.
From the current 40-man roster
Kevin Alcántara, Miguel Amaya, Javier Assad, Matt Boyd, Ben Brown, Michael Busch, Owen Caissie, Ben Cowles, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Matt Festa, Ian Happ, Porter Hodge, Nico Hoerner, Gavin Hollowell, Caleb Kilian, Luke Little, Julian Merryweather, Tyson Miller, Eli Morgan, Jack Neely, Daniel Palencia, Nate Pearson, Cody Poteet, Ethan Roberts, Justin Steele, Dansby Swanson, Jameson Taillon, Caleb Thielbar, Keegan Thompson, Kyle Tucker, Jordan Wicks, Gage Workman, Rob Zastryzny
That’s 33 of the 40 players currently on the roster. The seven who won’t make it are Vidal Bruján, Alexander Canario, Shōta Imanaga, Carson Kelly, Colin Rea, Luis Vázquez and Seiya Suzuki.
I can understand Imanaga and Suzuki not being able to make it, and Rea was just signed a couple of days ago.
Cubs alumni
Paul Bako, Ray Burris, Jody Davis, Andre Dawson, Ryan Dempster, Bob Dernier, Shawon Dunston, Jason Hammel, Fergie Jenkins, Reed Johnson, Derrek Lee, Jon Lieber, Bill Madlock, Gary Matthews, Lloyd McClendon, Brian McRae, Rich Nye, Aramis Ramírez, Glendon Rusch, Ryne Sandberg, Lee Smith, Sammy Sosa, Geovany Soto, Tim Stoddard, Rick Sutcliffe, Matt Szczur, Randy Wells, Billy Williams, Kerry Wood
Of course, a big splash will occur when Sosa is re-introduced to Cubs fans after many years away from the organization. It’s also good to see Sandberg on this list, as he’s again undergoing cancer treatments.
Cubs prospects
Moises Ballesteros, Brandon Birdsell, Cade Horton, Matt Shaw, James Triantos, Jaxon Wiggins
I would expect these six (plus others in the organization) to receive non-roster invitations to Spring Training. The official pitcher/catcher reporting date and first workout will be Sunday, Feb. 9 (same day as the Super Bowl!) and the first full-squad workout is expected on Friday, Feb. 14, leading up to the Cubs’ spring opener Thursday, Feb. 20 against the Dodgers at Camelback Ranch. The first spring home game at Sloan Park will be the next day, Feb. 21, also against the Dodgers.
Management
Craig Counsell, Carter Hawkins, Jed Hoyer, Tom Ricketts
There will be sessions with the Cubs field manager and with the two front office executives. I’d say those will be … interesting. You can find out more about the convention here and if you are going, there is an app to download with the specific time schedule.
Sara Sanchez will be covering CubsCon for BCB, so watch for her articles here over the weekend.
