Elgin Public Museum offering art, history sessions for kids
The Elgin Public Museum has partnered with Side Street Studio Arts to offer youth classes in art and history from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays, March 8-29, at the museum in Lords Park.
During each session, students will tour one of the museum’s exhibits to learn about history, anthropology and zoology, according to the class webpage. Each tour will be followed by art activities inspired by the day’s exhibit.
Students ages 7 to 11 will do craft projects and those 12 to 17 will work on drawings and sketches. The class schedule focuses on birds March 8, insects and spiders on March 15, Native American beadwork on March 22 and the spring thaw on March 29.
The program costs $100 per student, including the cost of materials.

Elgin Friends of Masons holding St. Patrick’s Pub Crawl
The Elgin Friends of Masons Club’s second annual St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl will start at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Patron Boss Fiesta Bar, 190 E. Highland Ave., Elgin.
Other stops will include The Martini Room, Vern’s Tavern, Beaunique and El Patio, with each offering exclusive St. Patrick’s Day-themed drinks and specials, according to the club’s website. Entertainment will include a scavenger hunt and performances from the Medinah Highlanders pipe band and the Trinity Irish Dancers.
Tickets are $50 each and include a free drink at every stop along with a T-shirt, while supplies last. For tickets and more information, go to friendsofmasons.org/events.
School District U-46 holding job fair on March 14
A School District U-46 job fair will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 14, at the U-46 Welcome Center, 1019 E. Chicago St., Elgin.
The district is looking for teachers, tutors, paraeducators, substitute teachers, noon hour supervisors, bus drivers, custodians, social workers and food service workers, according to a post on the U-46 website. On-site interviews will be conducted, and fingerprinting may be completed the same day.
