Here’s what was going on Monday at Cubs spring camp
MESA, Arizona — The sounds of baseball: The crack of the bat against ball, and pitched balls hitting catchers’ mitts, were heard all over the Sloan Park complex Monday morning and early afternoon, and, having headed to Mesa to take in the batting practice sessions, I thought I’d share these short BP videos with you.
First, here’s a photo of the guys waiting to begin the session. In the background you can see Justin Steele holding one of his daughters, brought along for the day.

Here are some BP videos, followed by live batting practice thrown by Cubs pitchers. Hope you enjoy them — one of them is a fairly rare view of Kyle Tucker, and I say “rare” because according to Jordan Bastian’s cubs dot com newsletter today, Tucker apparently doesn’t like taking a lot of BP:
Manager Craig Counsell noted that people may not see Kyle Tucker swing a bat much in morning workouts. He described Tucker as someone who likes to “keep it simple” and does a lot of his hitting in the cage. Quipped Counsell: “The hitting coaches are big fans already. He’s really good and he doesn’t hit a lot.”
