Tread Athletics held their 2025 Pro Day recently, with several arms looking for jobs in major league systems. After hiring Tyler Zombro from Tread a few months ago, the Cubs now have a direct link to the pitching development factor. That may have been a factor in them signing Ben Heller to a minor-league deal and then trading for Matt Festa. We didn’t have to wait long for them to add another Tread alum, with the outfit announcing today that the Cubs have signed righty Jordan Goldmann.
Second guy off the board as Jordan Goldmann signs with the Cubs!
Goldman threw 85-87 in college. Less than a year later, he ripped 94-95 mph with a four-seam, sinker, gyro slider, and a changeup that averaged under 4″ IVB and 19+” HB.

Goldmann, who attended Le Moyne College, was an undrafted free agent. His results in college weren’t great, with a 6.48 ERA and only 50 strikeouts to 38 walks in 73.2 innings. As the post above mentions, however, he has gone from sitting around 85-87 mph in college to 94-95 mph. He complements that improved velocity with a strong pitch selection that includes a sinker, slider, and changeup with an excellent 19+ inches of horizontal break.
Goldmann clearly won’t be a top prospect, but he could work his way up after continuing his development in the Cubs’ pitch lab. The Cubs have made strides in their pitching development and Zombro is one of the best in baseball at bringing out the best in pitchers, so anyone the Cubs sign from Tread sign is bound to be promising. If Goldmann was able to improve his velocity by almost 10 ticks over a few months, the improvement he can find with a big-league club’s resources could be significant.
