The Cubs have once again made a roster move to reconfigure the pitching staff, showing they will continue to be (moderately) aggressive and proactive with their pitching depth. According to the team’s transaction page, they have optioned lefty reliever Luke Little back to Triple-A Iowa. Little made his season debut Wednesday, walking four batters and allowing one run in two-thirds of an inning.
Little’s issues have stemmed from his lack of command, so his recent performance was par for the course. He was successful in Iowa and will look to adjust some things before trying again in Chicago. To fill the roster spot, the Cubs will be calling up Jordan Wicks.

The lefty has been in the mix for a call-up ever since Justin Steele went to the IL with a season-ending elbow injury. Wicks has thrown 12.2 innings with the Iowa Cubs this year, posting a 3.55 ERA with 11 strikeouts. He struggled in the majors last season, with an oblique injury causing him to miss a significant portion of the 2024 campaign.
Because they have off days punctuating their next several series, Craig Counsell can lean heavily on his starters and primary bullpen arms. With Colin Rea taking the mound Friday against the Diamondbacks, Wicks could work as more of a piggyback starter or serve elsewhere in long relief.
