#Cubs, #MLB, and #MiLB news, notes, and commentary, four days a week, rain or shine. Lots of decisions to make this spring. Who’s on third?
WELCOME to today’s episode of Cub Tracks news and notes™, a greatest-hits collection of Chicago-style beat writers and bloggers, ground from #Cubs, #MiLB, and #MLB baseball, overheated, steeped in writers’ tears, and then cold-brewed overnight for maximum flavor. No artificial intelligences were deployed, employed, entranced, or embalmed in the commission of this missive (apparently I might be training some though). Cub Tracks eagerly awaits the advent of robotic umpires and has already amended the three laws. The going is weird. Cub Tracks turned pro a long time ago.
Cub Tracks. Where the great ones run away.
Rob Z will probably pass waivers. I’m sure that Zastryzny and the Cubs have previously worked this out and have the framework at least of an agreement. He was designated for assignment when Ryan Brasier was acquired for cash considerations or a PTBNL.
The Cubs might claim Luis Vázquez if he is exposed. But then, they might not. Jed might be done collecting middle infielders. Developments, we love ‘em.

- Marquee Sports Network*: Cubs Weekly Podcast. “A pair of top prospects”.
- Matthew Trueblood (North Side Baseball*): I can tell you exactly to what “extent” the Cubs will stretch out Nate Pearson. “… Pearson will stretch: he’ll work to nine batters in a game. That’s his limit, and that’s where the Cubs will stop him, and that’s ok.”
- Michael Cerami (Bleacher Nation*): The Cubs have the best projected starter at six of eight positions in the NL Central. “… this is hardly an exact science.”
- Brian Kelder (North Side Baseball*): Is Alex Bregman really worth it? “… the Cubs should not pursue the top remaining free agent unless they are willing to pay the luxury tax.”
- Brett Taylor (Bleacher Nation*): Nico Hoerner is throwing! “Great news today, spotted by Rich Biesterfeld…”
- Matt Danielewicz (Marquee Sports Network*): Cubs prospect James Triantos tells the unique story of his promotion to Triple-A. “Triantos hopes to take Griffey Jr.’s advice and use it in Triple-A in hopes of making his way to the big leagues.”
- John Potts (WGEM*): Cubs broadcaster Hughes regales baseball fans at inaugural QBC event. “Quincy has a rich tradition of great ball players who have come here to play,” Hughes said, citing players such as Bruce Sutter, Whitey Herzog, Tony Kubek and Jim Ray Hart.
- Maritza Gomez (Arizona Republic* {$}): 2 Mesa hotels near Chicago Cubs Sloan Park ball field sell for $50M. “Two Marriott hotels near the Chicago Cubs spring training stadium sold for $50 million to the Tucson-based HSL Properties.”
