The late-night/early-morning spot for Cubs fans asks who do you want to represent the American League in the World Series.
It’s Tuesday night here at BCB After Dark: the grooviest club for night owls, early risers, new parents and Cubs fans abroad. We’re so glad you decided to stop by this evening. There’s no cover charge. The dress code is casual. Grab any table that’s still available. Bring your own beverage.
BCB After Dark is the place for you to talk baseball, music, movies, or anything else you need to get off your chest, as long as it is within the rules of the site. The late-nighters are encouraged to get the party started, but everyone else is invited to join in as you wake up the next morning and into the afternoon.
There were four playoff games today and I imagine you’re already familiar with how they went. In case you aren’t:
Other than the Padres/Braves clash, they were all pretty good games. The Tigers almost blew a three-run lead in the ninth. Only one run was scored in the second game. The Brewers blew a 2-0 lead and a 4-3 lead.
Last night I asked you who you want to win the National League pennant. I expected the Phillies to win and indeed they did with 35 percent of the vote. But that was a much lower total than I thought the Phillies would get. The Padres were second with 18 percent and the Brewers got 16 percent.
On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, I don’t normally do a movie essay. But if you have screwball comedies that you’d like to recommend for our winter tournament, please don’t let me stop you. But I always have time for jazz, so those of you who skip that can do so now. You won’t hurt my feelings.
Tonight I’m just going to pick a classic from the Miles Davis Quintet in 1957 and his classic album ‘Round About Midnight. This is the first Great Miles Davis Quintet, although Julian “Cannonball” Adderley hadn’t joined yet. We’ve got John Coltrane on tenor sax and Paul Chambers on bass. Red Garland is on piano and Philly Joe Jones was on drums.
This is “Bye Bye Blackbird.”
Sometimes you just want to hear the classics.
Welcome back to everyone who skips all that jazz.
Last night I asked you about who you wanted to win the National League pennant, so now the coin flips over to the American League side. Unlike with the NL where I was pretty sure the Phillies would win the vote, I really don’t know who will win tonight. I’m pretty sure one team won’t win, but I’ll keep to myself which team that is.
Remember, I’m not asking for your predictions. I’m asking who you are cheering for. I’ll let you vote for “nobody” again, but don’t vote for that unless you really check out of baseball when the Cubs season ends. Or you can vote for “nobody” if you’re a member of the media and you’re trying to live up to the “No cheering in the pressbox” rule, but in which case, I’d also like to tell you to get back to your job and to stop reading this silly little feature.
So who do you want to win the American League pennant?
Thank you for stopping by tonight. I hope one of your teams won a playoff game today. Please get home safely. Recycle any cans and bottles. Tip your waitstaff. And join us again tomorrow night for more BCB After Dark.
