This is going to be a bit different than the usual morning article.
My usual routine here each day during the offseason is to post an article topic here for discussion at 9 a.m. CT.
Recently, though, it hasn’t seemed to matter what the topic is, the comment section quickly gets overrun by criticism of Tom Ricketts, Jed Hoyer, the entire Cubs organization or some combination of the above. This was driven home to me yesterday when that happened to the comment section on my post regarding the 2027 All-Star Game — something you’d think might drive a bit of positivity.
Let me be clear about something before I tell you what I’m about to tell you. I am no fan of Jed Hoyer. I’ve written about that multiple times here (here’s just one example) and in the end, I hope he is replaced as Cubs President of Baseball Operations. However, nothing I say or write here is going to change the way the Cubs are operated. They have made their choices.
Nevertheless, the negativity here is beginning to weigh on me. So here’s what I’m going to do here today. I’m not going to write about any specific Cubs topic this morning. This is less about the team and more about you, the BCB reader.
And so I’m giving the comment section over to the naysayers. Go ahead, do your worst. The only things I ask are that you keep to site rules and be kind to others.
Have at it. You probably won’t see me reply here. It’s kind of me taking the day off. Hopefully that will refresh me and I’ll have something more interesting to write here tomorrow.
